The KB Home Sustainability Report cites a recent study that says you can REDUCE THE EMBODIED CARBON OF A HOME BY UP TO 50% by switching to emerging products that contain less carbon. Did you know? - Concrete is estimated to be the material with the largest embodied carbon contribution at 35.5% - Insulation is the 2nd largest contributor of embodied carbon in a home KB Home is evaluating opportunities to reduce the embodied carbon footprint of their homes using lower carbon alternative building materials in select Arizona pilot communities. By installing SANCTUARY in their Arizona pilots, these homes now have a lower carbon footprint plus carbon storage for the life of the home – KEEPING ~250 METRIC TONS OF CO2e FROM THE ATMOSPHERE IN 2024! Here are some tips we can all follow to #RecycleRight for #EarthDay: - Keep the paper clean and separate from any food waste. - Break down your cardboard boxes (you can leave the tape on unless it’s excessive). - Recycle your newspapers, phone books, magazines, office paper, cardboard, cereal boxes, brown paper bags and construction paper — we’ll use that recycled material to manufacture SANCTUARY. - Check with your waste management facility for guidelines. The countdown to Earth Day is ON! This year’s theme is #RecyclingRight. Did you know that 70.4M tons of paper and paperboard are consumed in the US annually? Greenfiber diverted over 265K tons of that paper from landfills last year. And we’re on track to upcycle even more in 2024! But that’s not all... We also locked up 142K tons of CO2 from the atmosphere – equivalent to 370M trees! We all play an important part in reducing carbon emissions and keeping our planet healthy. We've partnered with the Journal Of Light Construction and Symbi Homes on the #QueenofZero - a custom single-family rebuild in Maryland. The goal of the project is to bring back a Queen Anne Victorian home destroyed by fire to a net-zero standard of high performance. The team chose SANCTUARY for the home's insulation because of its low embodied carbon and superior sound attenuation. We're excited to share more about the project and our involvement this year.
